World No Tobacco Day 2017 : Beating tobacco for health, prosperity, the environment and national development

Action to eliminate cigarettes can help countries to prevent millions of people suffering from smoking-related diseases and fight poverty .  According to WHO’s first report .  To reduce the main environmental degradation.

On not celebrating World Tobacco Day 2017 .  WHO highlights how tobacco threatens the development of countries around  . The world and calls on governments to implement strong measures to curb smoking . These include tobacco marketing prevention and advertising .  To promote normal tobacco packaging products, raise its practice in taxes, indoor public places and smoke-free workplace.

Tobacco health and economic costs

Tobacco use kills more than 7 million people a year and costs more than US families and governments $ 1.4 trillion through health care costs and loss of productivity.

“Tobacco that threatens every one of us,” said WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan. “Tobacco increases poverty, reduces productivity, contributes to poor economic decisions about food, family and pollutes the air at home.”

“But with strong tobacco controls, governments can protect the future of prevention from their tobacco users and non-users from the plant, generate money to support public health, and keep their regions safe from the scourge of tobacco,” Dr Chan said.

Have committed all countries to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is aimed at promoting world peace and eradicating poverty. Key elements of this program include the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, 2030, to reduce one-third of sudden death from non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including heart and lung disease, cancer and diabetes, of which tobacco is a key factor.
