So rather than presume the worst I asked around and was assured that Murder on the Orient Express STX Entertainment had nothing to do with A Bad Moms Christmas not showing up on Rotten Tomatoes until yesterday morning. And, if I may, A Bad Moms Christmas is precisely the kind of movie that qualifies as critic-proof.
It Murder on the Orient Express plays to adult women, which is a very underserve demographic. And since we all know that the stereotypical movie critic tends to be a young(ish) white guy, said consensus on said movies are often take with a grain of salt . There were plenty of female critics who didn’t like A Bad Moms Christmas, but that isn’t stopping my wife and her friends from going tonight . In this case, since the embargo for A Bad Moms Christmas was essentially 15 hours before the broadcast . They Murder on the Orient Express chose that newbie as the exclusive “unveiling” title. Maybe next week it’ll be Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s Daddy’s Home 2 . Which I imagine will also have an embargo pretty close to the Murder on the Orient Express Nov. 10 release date. Or maybe they will pick something with a long-lead embargo that doesn’t open for a bit. We can expect much hand-wringing if they select the obvious pick for Nov. 17 as the “keep away” title.
I spoke with my Rotten Tomatoes contacts . Who assured me that this is not any kind of under-the-table deal with studios . That Rotten Tomatoes will not be holding back reviews and scores until a Murder on the Orient Express film‘s or TV show’s opening day as a matter of course.
Just yesterday, the embargo broke for Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express . Those reviews popped up as always on the site. I’ll add mine after I see the Murder on the Orient Express film on Monday. But thus far this does not appear to be an evil plot between Hollywood and Rotten Tomatoes . Nor does it appear to be the studios’ reaction to a summer . Where the review site seemed to have a relative impact on the performance of critically panned biggies. If Rotten Tomatoes were really to do this kind of site-wide hide-and-seek,
It Murder on the Orient Express would be playing into the worst stereotypes about what the site represents and essentially daring folks to never actually visit the site itself or read any of the various reviews.
No matter how much I hate how much folks in the media . In Murder on the Orient Express the public obsess over the Tomatometer score . As if it is the single barometer of critical consensus . So to answer a few questions, the very rough plan for the brand new show is to hold back one . It Murder on the Orient Express is not a new site-wide policy to essentially revert back to the pre-Internet days . When reviews dropped on the Thursday or Friday morning of release via your local daily newspaper . Nor does it appear STX engaged with any funny business with Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango concerning the site hiding . The majority negative reviews until well after opening day. That’s not to say that I can or will predict what will happen in the future. But in this case, at least as of this moment in time . Occam’s Razor applies, and there was no diabolical conspiracy.
